Music
At SS Peter & Paul we consider Music a universal form of communication, one through which children of all ages can be encouraged to express their ideas and feelings.
Mrs Wallbridge our music specialist teaches Foundation stage through to Year 6. The weekly lessons provide the children with a wealth of musical experiences and opportunities to develop their skills and understanding of how music is made. The content of the music curriculum includes using sounds and music to make responses, singing in parts as well as unison, playing a whole array of percussion and other instruments; composition and music appreciation. There is also a programme of music appreciation so that children learn about composers and their works.
We have our own Orchestra / String ensemble run by Mrs Wallbridge after school on Tuesdays in the St Cecelia room.
In Key stage 1 & 2 children may choose to learn an instrument. We offer the following choices: recorder, guitar, piano, violin, clarinet and cello. We also offer singing tuition for KS2 children.
We work closely with our feeder secondary schools and each year the children take part in showcases at the secondary schools.
Music plays a major part in school through assemblies, masses and performances and children have many opportunities to participate by singing or playing their instrument.
Each year our school choir are taught a range of wonderful songs by David Ogden. In Term 4, he visits 8 Catholic schools and then they come together at St Bede's for a wonderful celebration. It is always a fantastic experience for the children and parents.
We enjoy opportunities to sing together in class, at assemblies and in church. KS 1 & 2 have singing practice. Children in years 3, 4, 5 & 6 are invited to join the popular school choir (run by Miss White) which meets weekly on Wednesdays and performs regularly in school, church and the wider community.
